A Cool Evening at the Beach

I found myself with a few minutes to spare before a meeting in Grand Haven. Armed with my "mommy cam" (little point and shoot digital camera) I drove by the beach. I certainly wasn't dressed for the elements, but I dashed outside the warmth of my truck to capture these images.

Models in the Studio

We recently purchased new lighting equipment and we've been anxious to try it out. We invited Heather and Kathryn into the studio to pose for us. They were so much fun. They held up well as we experimented!

Thanks so much for sharing your time with us girls - we owe you big!!

Rebecca Ransom - Miss Heart of Michigan

Our friends at Classic Gallery let us know that Rebecca Ransom won the "Miss Heart of Michigan" scholarship pageant earlier this month. The Miss Heart of Michigan Scholarship Pageant is a Miss America preliminary pageant.

We've had the pleasure of working with Rebecca and her Mom, Jackie, for the last two years as they directed the Miss Coopersville pageant.

We had even more fun when Rebecca came to the studio last fall to get her head shot updated.

Congratulations Rebecca!! We're so happy for you!!

Kim's Living Room

I thought I'd share my accomplishment from this weekend: my living room wall!

I was inspired to use the old newspapers (dating back to 1923) we found when we remodeled the studio as the background for our family portrait. Karen created an awesome image for us and we'll never have another one quite like it. The problem was that the dark tone blended in with my chocolate brown wall. It became even trickier because the image is printed as a 24x36 canvas gallery wrap, therefore, making it unnecessary to frame (which might have helped it stand out). I decided to paint a "frame" on the wall. I used crackle paint to give it a little depth and interest. I then found a quote about family that really struck a cord with me so I turned to UpperCase Living and had a custom expression created. Finally, this weekend, it all came together!

I'm an aunt again!

My new nephew Wyatt was born last Monday, February 18th. He weighed 7 pounds 11 ounces and is absolutely adorable!! His big brother and sister have been anxiously awaiting his arrival and so has the rest of the family.

I'll have more pictures after his first session soon...

Young Talent

I recently attended an awards ceremony to honor the many talented student artists in our area. My sister-in-law Jaci received a Gold Key in the Scholastic Art and Writing Competition. Her piece will move on to be judged in New York. The awards ceremony was followed by a reception at Kendall College of Art and Design where we looked at the many pieces of artwork on display.

A little trivia... Andy Warhol and Truman Capote are two past recipients of a Scholastic award!

Congratulations and continue to inspire and be inspired!!

Karen and I just returned from a 5 day Professional Photographers of Michigan convention in Ypsilanti. It was an amazing opportunity meet other photographers from around the state and hear nationally recognized photographers talk about their business as well.

We literally have pages and pages of notes. There were so many creative photographers that have inspired us to take our business to another level.

Here are some random images from the convention. The Marriott in Ypsilanti had some really fun furniture in their lobby so we took advantage of it :)
